Introducing Olivia Betts

Olivia is a passionate agronomist at the Elders Bairnsdale branch whose connection to agriculture began long before her career started.

A proud Bairnsdale local, Olivia grew up on her family’s beef farm, where she developed a deep love for the land, animals and the people who work in agriculture.

Driven by her passion for the industry, Olivia went on to study Agricultural Science and Accounting at La Trobe University.

While the combination may seem unusual at first, it has become one of the biggest strengths in her career.

By blending technical agronomy knowledge with an understanding of business and economics, Olivia is able to help growers make informed decisions that are both productive and financially sustainable.

It’s important to ensure that clients base their decisions on the economics of purchasing seed, fertiliser and agchem, rather than just on improving pasture growth,” she said.

“It helps them look beyond pasture performance alone and focus on the long-term cost-benefit behind every decision.”

After completing her studies, Olivia returned home to Bairnsdale and joined the Elders Graduate Agronomy Program.

Through the program, Olivia received structured training designed to support graduates entering the industry. The program included study tours, field visits, practical learning sessions and online training opportunities across a range of agronomy topics.

“We had state-level training events and sessions organised by the agronomy managers, along with online sessions on areas where we needed extra support.”

“I feel lucky to have been involved in the graduate program and receive the essential training that helped get me up and going.

“It also gave me the opportunity to build my career in Bairnsdale.”
