Community Impact and Investment

Elders is committed to the priorities within our Sustainability Framework. Of the utmost importance is the health and safety of our employees, attracting and retaining the best people in agriculture, and quality impact and investment in the communities in which we operate.

Our People

Our most important asset is our people, and our priority is to provide them with a safe working environment and a supportive working culture.

Health and Safety

Safety is a critical and non-negotiable objective of Elders. We continuously improve our work health and safety systems to achieve our goal of zero harm in our business. Over the last year, we have seen a decrease in lost time injuries (LTIs) from six in FY22 to three in FY23. In addition, we have reduced our total recordable injury frequency rate from 12.6 in FY22 to 10.1 in FY23.

Our commitment to establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment is further set out in our Work Health and Safety Policy.

Employee Attraction and Retention

We are committed to investing in ongoing learning and development programs, designed and delivered by Elders, for Elders. We also prioritise ongoing remuneration and reward frameworks, and succession and retention models. We are championing women in our workforce, with programs in place to improve the number of women in senior leadership positions. Women are also represented on Elders’ Board

In 2023, as part of our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, we made a range of changes to our leave policies. These include:

  • increasing paid parental leave for primary carers which is above the legislative minimum.
  • ensuring service recognition and service awards are inclusive of periods of unpaid leave, including unpaid parental leave.

We also champion youth in agriculture, with our Early Careers Program dedicated to nurturing the next generation of talent. We have opportunities available in livestock, agronomy, rural products and corporate careers to help young people build skills and experience in our sector.

Our Communities

For over 185 years, Elders has been intrinsically linked to regional and rural communities. We feel it is our responsibility to support the communities in which we live and work – and we gladly do so.

In FY23, we provided $3.3 million in sponsorships and community partnerships, supporting over 1000 organisations across Australia. These funds are directed to community organisations, health and wellbeing projects and initiatives that promote innovation and education within the agricultural sector.

We also recently announced our Community Giving Project, which is an annual grant program dedicated to making real impacts in regional communities.
