Developed in partnership with Octopusbot, the report combines artificial intelligence, weather data and satellite imagery to deliver monthly insights during the key wheat growing season of July to November. It will track crop performance across five states and 19 growing regions. This enables you to make more informed on-farm planning, better decision-making and conversations with trusted advisers. It is designed to complement local agronomic knowledge by placing regional conditions in a national context.
Crop update September 2026
According to the report, Australia's wheat crop declined slightly over the past month. The national Condition Index* is 67.1 out of 100, down from 68.8 in August and a touch below the 68.6 actual last year. Most of the crop, 59 per cent, is rated Fair, while the share rated Good or Excellent is 35 per cent.

How to read this report
*Octopusbot's AI forecasts the yield in every wheat-growing region, then compares it with what that region usually grows. Each region gets one of five ratings, each mapping to a band of the 0 to 100 Condition Index:
- Very poor: 0 to 10. Over 40 pc below usual
- Poor: 10 to 30. 20 to 40 pc below
- Fair: 30 to 70. Within 20 pc of usual
- Good: 70 to 90. 20 to 40 pc above
- Excellent: 90 to 100. Over 40 pc above usual.
