Elders Roma reported a strong outcome for vendors at the dedicated Elders Feeder Sale. Held on Friday 11 July at the Roma Saleyards, there was a total yarding of 1,214 head.
Feeder Sale Competition Grand Champion Pen Winners Stephen & Helen Wilkin with Elders Roma Branch Manager, Keith Crouch.
Buyers from across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria competed for quality lines of feeder weight cattle, with solid demand seen across steers and heifers alike. The market remained firm, underpinned by strong competition from feedlot buyers and restockers seeking heavier lines for grain programs.
Elders Roma Branch Manager, Keith Crouch, said the result were a strong uplift from the prices that were being offered in the weeks leading up to the sale which shows the confidence buyers have in the quality of cattle coming through Roma.
“Well-bred steers and heifers that were properly prepared for feedlot entry were definitely the standouts.”
“We saw the most money coming in from those heavier lines of cattle over 400kg,” he said.
Sale highlights included:
- Heavier feeder steers at 400-500kg achieving up to 456.20c/kg, averaging 412.47c/kg
- Heifers reaching 376.20c/kg, showing strong results for heavier types
Vendors presenting lines of Angus, Charolais, and Euro-cross cattle were well rewarded, with multiple pens attracting strong bidding from southern feedlots as well as local and repeat buyers.
The event was a great success, with vendors rewarded for presenting quality, feedlot-ready lines.
“We had a strong gallery of buyers in the lanes and very good support from feedlots and restockers,” Keith said.
“It was also fantastic to celebrate the hard work of all the vendors through the competition, which added another layer of interest and energy to the day.
“It was a very strong showing for our first feeder sale and we are looking forward to making this an annual event with the date for the second sale already set for 10 July 2026.”
