Elders Dubbo hosted its annual trial demonstration field day last week, bringing together around 50 agronomists, clients and suppliers to review seasonal results, discuss new agronomy practices, and explore emerging technology.
Located at the two-hectare trial and demonstration site at Dubbo NSW, the event revisited pre- and post-emergent spray trials in canola and wheat, biological product demonstrations, and Paraquat-replacement alternatives. Discussions included new insights into product effectiveness and saw how biological inputs are setting new standards for fertiliser efficiency and crop performance.
Elders Northern Region Technical Services Manager, Adam Little said it is important to hold these events to review the efficacy of the new and older chemistry available on the market.
“Days like these are all about helping our agronomists stay up to date and see what is really working in the paddock,” Adam said.
“This in turn helps us guide our clients toward less weed burden and higher yield potential.”
Later in the day, attendees witnessed a live drone demonstration by StevTech, showcasing its new automated docking stations for real-time field mapping and crop monitoring. Imtrade CropScience presented a hands-on demonstration of its latest product, Omen, and discussed the importance of water pH management during spraying.
Participants gather around a plot within the Dubbo trial site to learn about the trial results.
“The role of ag tech, and why we partner with companies like StevTech, is to demonstrate how technology can make day-to-day operations more efficient for both agronomists and clients,” Adam said.
“Drones have multiple application including mapping, weed detection for green on brown and green on green, plant counts, along with the application of herbicides, fungicides and insecticides,” he said.
FMC Corporation introduced its upcoming product, FMC 410, while Terragen and BioHub Solutions provided updates on biological technologies designed to improve root development and overall plant health.
“Elders works with many partners across multiple biological products, so having the opportunity to review the products provides our team information about emerging technologies to reduce nitrogen use or enhance nutrient take up and availability,” Adam said.
Suppliers in attendance included Nufarm, Imtrade, BASF, Bayer, Syngenta, Adama, FMC, Mort & Co, Terragen, Omnia, BioHub, GenTech Seeds, and Titan Ag, all contributing to lively discussions on agronomic performance and future product development.
