Shining a light on rural Queensland through the Outback Explorer Competition

Elders is proud to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) in the Outback Explorer Competition, which will celebrate the unique diversity of Queensland communities.

Elders is partnering with the RFDS to bring Queenslanders the Outback Explorer Competition, which is an exciting video competition aimed at showcasing the heart and spirit of Queensland communities. Participants are invited to capture what they love most about the state in which they live and work for the chance to win $10,000.

The competition will run for a period of six weeks, between 8 October to 19 November. Participants can upload their videos to YouTube, Instagram or TikTok and submit them on the official competition website for public voting. The judging panel will choose an overall winner, who will receive a $10,000 prize. There are also three People’s Choice Award winners who will each get a $1,000 travel voucher.

Lisa Hewitt, Elders State General Manager for Queensland and NT, emphasised how this initiative underpins Elders’ commitment to rural Queensland.

“It is wonderful to be able to bring together two organisations which share mutual connections into regional Queensland, through an initiative which is all about celebrating the uniqueness of the Queensland way of life,” Lisa said.

“We are so proud to be partnering with the RFDS through this campaign, which we hope will lift the presence and profile of rural and regional people, and shine a light on how important these people are."

This initiative is just one example of Elders’ support for the Queensland branch of the RFDS, with recent involvement in the 60th annual RFDS Mt Isa Hangar Ball.

Paul McCormick, Elders Livestock Manager, auctioneered at the event, and said the annual ball brings together RFDS staff, consultants and sponsors to honour their vital contributions to the community.

"I was so proud to represent Elders alongside the RFDS, as our teams both operate in the same regions,” Paul said.

“We witnessed firsthand the positive impact they have on rural and remote communities, supporting the future sustainability of Australian agriculture.

It was fantastic to see so many young people at the function in Mt Isa, many of whom contribute to rural and remote communities through trades and services, without living there themselves.”

Ross Matthews, Branch Manager of Elders Tolga, and Russell Smerdon, Elders Mareeba Territory Sales Manager, also supported the RFDS (Queensland Section) earlier in the year at the organisation’s first Cairns Ball.

Like Paul, both showcased auctioneering skills to help raise funds to support the vital work the RFDS does across Queensland.

These initiatives build on Elders’ support for the RFDS, with local fundraisers occurring across Australia each year, and a three-year partnership with the SA/NT branch.
