International conference brings Wagyu industry to Sydney

Last week, the Elders livestock team ventured to Sydney for the Australian Wagyu Association’s 2023 International Wagyu Conference, WagyuEdge.

As silver sponsors of the event, it was a busy few days for the Elders team, with 650 people attending the event. Industry leaders and supporters came together from across the globe to discuss the challenges facing the red meat industry, new tools for genetic diversity and global trends in agriculture and luxury proteins.

Elders NSW State Livestock Manager, Nik Hannaford said the event was an exciting opportunity for industry leaders and supporters to get together.

“It’s great to be here at the 2023 WagyuEdge conference in Sydney, to catch up with our clients and help promote their upcoming sales,” he said.

“It’s fantastic to hear industry experts talk about the future and direction of Wagyu both domestically and internationally.’

The Australian Wagyu sector is the leading producer and exporter of Wagyu beef to international high-end markets. According to the Australian Wagyu Association, more than 90 per cent of Australian Wagyu is exported internationally, to a range of premium buyers.

Elders National Wagyu Specialist James Matts said, ‘The future of the industry is looking strong with most markets displaying strong ongoing demand for high quality cattle.’

WagyuEdge23 was not only a chance to learn more about the current status and future developments of the luxurious meat industry but also catch up with producers, breeders and friends during harbour boat cruises, black tie balls and cocktail functions.

The Elders Wagyu calendar is building for the year with some of our biggest sales in 2023 locked in.
