Thomas (Tom) joined Elders in 2024 and is the Branch Manager of Elders Smithton. He has a strong foundation in the dairy industry, built over many years of hands-on experience.
Born and raised in Tasmania on dairy farms, Tom developed a deep understanding of agriculture from an early age. He began working in the dairy industry at just 15, later completing an agricultural apprenticeship with the Van Diemen’s Land Company (VDL), now known as Van Dairy Group.
Over nearly 12 years with VDL, Tom gained extensive experience across a range of roles. His work included managing the dairy heifer unit responsible for managing approximately 12000 head of dairy heifers, overseeing silage and hay production, and working directly on dairy farms milking cows and raising calves.
One of Tom's successes at work involved raising dairy heifers both for replacements and for export to China, demonstrating strong expertise in animal husbandry and large-scale agricultural operations.
Tom is passionate about animal health and supporting clients to make informed decisions that improve productivity, efficiency, and long-term profitability. His practical knowledge, combined with leadership experience, allows him to deliver tailored solutions that add real value to farming businesses.
