Elders' agronomist appointed to GRDC Southern Panel

Elders' agronomist Adam Hancock has been appointed as a new member of the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Southern Panel. His appointment reflects strong recognition of his expertise in grain agronomy and grower support.

Based in Naracoorte SA, Adam brings 15 years of broadacre and high-rainfall zone agronomy experience.

Adam has played a key role in various industry-funded projects investigating nutrient efficiency and agtech adoption. During his time with the GRDC Regional Cropping Solutions Network, Adam worked with growers and researchers to prioritise local constraints and opportunities for grain growers.

Adam said he was looking forward to working directly with growers, learning about their challenges, and using that knowledge to help shape research priorities.

“By feeding these insights into GRDC’s investment decisions, we can ensure that research is targeted at the real needs growers are facing on-farm."

"This approach means the outcomes of research are practical, relevant, and able to deliver real impact in the paddock,” he said.

In addition to his role with Elders, Adam is a member of the MacKillop Farm Management Group, the Limestone Coast Grassland Society, and the Southern Australia Durum Growers Association. He has been actively involved with supporting the development of early-career agronomists through his involvement in the Elders Graduate Development Program, demonstrating his commitment to mentoring and building the next generation of industry professionals.

The GRDC Southern Panel plays an important role in shaping Strategic Research, Development and Extension (RD&E) priorities across South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania, advising on issues impacting grain growers.

Technical Services Manager, Lyndon May said Adam’s appointment was well deserved.

“It’s a credit to his work ethic; his drive to help farmers and those starting out in the industry,”

“Adam’s nurturing nature and attention to detail has been invaluable in developing our younger agronomists’ inquisitive skills when learning about different crop and pasture systems,” Lyndon added.

“The younger agronomists always look forward to jumping in the ute with Adam when heading out on paddock visits or field walks.”

Elders Chief Agronomist, Alex Greetham said the appointment was fantastic recognition of Adam’s hard work and commitment to helping growers and the wider grain’s industry.

“Within Elders, we’re fortunate to have such passionate and capable people,” Alex said.

“By actively contributing to GRDC discussions and sharing those insights across our teams, Adam Hancock is helping to strengthen the flow of knowledge throughout the Elders network.

“This ongoing exchange within the agronomy group not only builds collective expertise but also deepens the value we offer to growers.”
