The Australian stud stock and auctioneering community is mourning the loss of one of its most respected and recognisable figures, Michael Glasser, who has passed away aged 59.

With a career spanning decades, Michael was widely acknowledged as one of Australia’s leading stud stock auctioneers. From the rostrum to the paddock, he brought professionalism, authenticity and deep industry knowledge that left an indelible mark across the nation’s livestock sector.
Michael’s connection to Elders began in 1998 following the merger with VPC, where he was already highly regarded as Stud Stock Manager. He continued in this leadership role for Victoria and the Riverina until 2010. He then went on to establish his own successful enterprise, Glasser Total Sales Management (GTSM), with his wife Maz, which was later sold to Ray White in 2022.
In early 2024, Elders was proud to welcome Michael back to the business. In his return, he embraced the opportunity to reconnect with long-time clients and colleagues, and in true Michael fashion, took younger auctioneers and agents under his wing.
Elders Victoria and Riverina Stud Stock Manager and fellow auctioneer Ross Milne reflected on the impact Michael had across the industry.
“He had excellent product knowledge, a great rapport with buyers, charisma, but also was very genuine—and that is why he was held in such high regard,” Mr Milne said.
“He sold beside some of the best in the industry—Tony Dowe, Kevin Norris and Paul Dooley—and he was a great person.”
Michael’s legacy lives on not only through his impressive career, but through those he mentored—including Mr Milne himself.
“When Michael came back to Elders, he wanted to reconnect with his clients, but he was very keen to mentor young people because that was the kind of guy he was,” Mr Milne said.
“He was so well liked.”
Michael's skill on the auctioneer's rostrum was matched by his love of livestock and the rural lifestyle. Known for his quick wit, sharp market insight and warm presence, he brought energy and trust to every transaction.
Outside of his professional life, Michael had a strong passion for breeding performance horses and was a regular competitor on the campdraft circuit—competing as recently as a month ago.
His contribution was formally acknowledged at last week’s Hereford National Show and Sale, where fellow auctioneer Paul Dooley paid tribute to Michael’s long-standing commitment to the event and the broader industry.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife Maz and their children. He leaves behind a legacy of excellence, mentorship and community that will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
Vale Michael Glasser. A legendary auctioneer. A generous mentor. A devoted family man.
He will be greatly missed.
