Young Beef Producers Forum celebrates 20 Years

The 2024 Australian Young Beef Producers Forum (YBPF) hit a big milestone this year, celebrating 20 years as a key event for young leaders in the beef industry.

Held over two days in Roma, Queensland, the forum brought together under-40s from across the sector to connect, learn from experts, and grow professionally. Designed by young industry leaders for their peers, the event packed in everything from field tours and seminars to plenty of networking opportunities.

Elders proudly supported the forum, with a strong turnout from their southwest Queensland team. The event wrapped up with a cocktail evening at the Roma Saleyards, giving attendees time to reflect on the experience and build connections.

For livestock trainee Logan Evans, based in Roma, the forum was packed with standout moments.

“Some highlights included the speech from Lisa Hewitt, Elders State General Manager Qld/NT, on never turning down an opportunity,” Logan said.

“Ryan Carter’s talk on Wagyu operations through the Australian Country Choice feedlots and properties was also particularly interesting.

"It is clear the forum aims to highlight the different career paths available to us in the beef industry, it was great to make so many new connections at the forum.”

Jamie Knight, Rural Products Sales Representative from Elders St George, said he appreciated the chance to connect with Elders staff and other members of the industry.

“Keeping an open mind to different conversations and perspectives was a big takeaway for me,” he said.

“Meeting new people was also a key priority, especially the Elders staff who were there to make sure we establish good relationships for the future.”

Another Elders representative, Maggie Read, who is based in Mackay, said the 2024 forum was a fantastic event for anyone looking to grow in the beef industry.

“The calibre of speakers was exceptional - it left me feeling inspired and motivated,” she said.

“Two pieces of advice that really stuck with me were: ‘You can’t teach keen. If you want to do something, get out there and get keen,’ and ‘Be curious without judgment.’”

Elders Qld/NT is proud to support the growth of future leaders in the beef industry and looks forward to supporting the YBPF again in 2025 and beyond.
