Elders Territory Sales Manager Harry Cozens has claimed this year’s ALPA Victorian Young Auctioneer competition.

The competition was held on Monday at the Victorian Livestock Exchange in Pakenham, with 10 budding auctioneers competing for the championship and Graham Lanyon shield.
Harry, who was the runner-up in last year’s competition, said he was ecstatic to take it one step further and claim the top prize this year.
“It’s a big build up to the competition so I’m relieved that it’s over, but thrilled to come home with the chocolates,” he said.
Harry will head to Sydney in late March next year to represent Victoria in the National Young Auctioneer competition at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
After competing in the national competition earlier this year, Harry said he is feeling more comfortable the second time round.
“I’ve certainly got more experience going into the national competition this time round, I’ll just get out there and do what I do and keep it simple,” he said.
Harry credits his improvement to Elders Albury Livestock Manager Brett Shea, whose dedication and mentorship has encouraged Harry to improve.
”I’m doing a lot more selling at all our fat cattle sales, and being backed up by mentors within Elders has given me the opportunity to really flourish and develop my skills”.
Elders National Livestock Manager Peter Homann was in attendance at the competition, and said Harry stood out amongst a high calibre of competition.
“I am very happy for Harry, I have been following his progress from when he first started in the saleyards in Hamilton to now selling across Victoria and the Riverina,” Peter said.
“He continues to develop and is a good auctioneer, agent and all round good person who is highly regarded by his peers.”
Peter also spoke of James and Josh who also represented Elders Ballarat and Korumburra respectively in the competition.
“The boys should be commended for the way they represented Elders. Both James and Josh have shown great development in their auctioneering and it is wonderful to see the support that they receive from the livestock teams they work within to give them the opportunity to continue developing their skills.”
Day to day, Harry works as a Territory Sales Manager in Albury, servicing the surrounding region’s livestock clients.
