The latest on the Australian wool market Week 10, Season 2026/27, direct from the Elders wool team.
The Australian wool market has recorded a solid overall rise in this selling series, adding further gains to those seen last week. Last week’s price rises encouraged more sellers to the market, bolstering the national offering.
There was a total of 25,021 bales available to the trade. This was 1,370 more than the previous week. The total amount of bales offered this season is below the previous, due in part to the lower prices on offer at the beginning of the season. There has been a total of 200,574 bales offered season to date. This is 18,187 fewer bales, a reduction of 8.3 per cent.
The market opened on day one in the east, with price levels noticeably higher than those on offer at the previous sale. There was widespread demand and spirited bidding, helping to maintain the upward trajectory of the market. By the end of the first day the Micron Price Guides (MPGs) for merino fleece in the East rose by between 13 and 59 cents.
Fremantle sold last and the market continued to rise. The Western MPGs rose by between 36 and 60 cents. The rises meant that the MPGs in Fremantle for 19.0 micron and coarser all finished above the Eastern levels, setting the market up for a positive start for the second day.
The benchmark Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) added 26 cents for the day, a 1.4 pc increase. Currency played little part in the rises, the EMI added 17 US cents for the day, a 1.3 pc increase.
On the second day the market continued to rise, albeit at a slower pace than on the previous day. The Eastern MPGs ranged between minus 4 and plus 38 cents. The EMI climbed by a further 11 cents, closing the week 37 cents higher at 1,890 cents.
Next week’s offering is forecast to reduce. There is currently expected to be 23,851 bales on offer in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle.
