Five minutes with Scott Mawn

For northern Queensland and Northern Territory livestock manager Scott Mawn, every day at Elders offers a new challenge.

Scott Mawn first commenced work with Elders 24 years ago, starting with Primac Elders in February 2000, based at Warwick in southeast Queensland. From there, he worked his way up the ranks, becoming branch manager at Charleville in 2008 and remaining there for over three years.

Following that, Scott shifted from Elders for a short time, gaining experience in the resources and energy sector, before beginning his second stint with Elders in 2016, working in the livestock business in northern Queensland – and it is in the north that he has stayed.

Now, managing livestock sales across northern Queensland and the Northern Territory, Scott said he loves the challenges the role brings, and craves achieving outstanding results for his clients.

“My day-to-day role can vary greatly, from drafting and loading cattle for transport or markets, or attending sales,” Scott said.

“Plus, being part of the senior leadership team for Queensland and the Northern Territory gives me the opportunity to be involved and accountable for the growth and success of the livestock business.

“Part of this involves the development and implementation of livestock strategy, presentation of marketing proposals, training and sourcing staff.

“It’s fair to say each day is different, and offers a new challenge.”

Passionate about agriculture, Scott explained that he greatly enjoys working alongside Elders’ strong networks.

“The best part of my role is definitely working with the people I meet and the friendships that have formed over the past 20 years in the industry,” he said.

“Being involved in Australian agriculture, and with an organisation like Elders, is very rewarding and certainly gives me the incentive to continue forward with my career.”

Along with the rest of the Queensland livestock team, Scott will be attending Beef Week in May, of which Elders is a Principal Partner. Scott explained that Beef Week is the premier event for beef producers across Australia.

“Beef is the premier event showcasing the Australian beef industry, and provides opportunity to promote our industry both domestically and on an international scale,” he said.

“It is very exciting to be part of that.”

The ever popular Elders Pavilion will be back at Beef Week from 5 to 11 May, playing host to the latest in industry innovations for beef producers. We'll have exclusive deals from our event partners and a lot more planned.
